After-School Arts

The hours between 3 PM and 6 PM are statistically the highest-risk window in a child's day — when many unsupervised children are most likely to encounter dangerous situations, substance use, or simply the kind of unoccupied time that allows negative peer behavior to fill the void.

Our after-school arts program provides 90+ children weekly with a supervised, enriching alternative: structured arts activities, mentoring relationships with trained adult volunteers, and a community of peers centered on creativity rather than risk.

What a Session Looks Like

A typical after-school session includes a brief group check-in (how are you doing today?), a creative project in music, visual arts, or creative writing, a mentoring component where children interact with adult volunteers in small groups, and a structured closing that reinforces the week's theme. Snacks are provided. The environment is warm and low-stakes — there's no wrong way to express yourself.

Who Participates

We serve children ages 6–14 in underserved communities where after-school programming options are limited. Priority is given to children referred by school counselors, social workers, or families who identify their child as facing particular challenges at home or school.

The Long-Term Impact

We have seen children who arrived struggling academically and socially develop confidence, skills, and a sense of belonging through consistent participation in this program. Many of our current adult volunteers were former program participants — a cycle of impact that sustains itself over time.
